Fleas are wingless insects about 1/16′ to 1/6′ long. They are parasitic, sucking blood from a variety of hosts. There are many types of fleas, but the most common is the cat flea which also affects humans and dogs. Fleas have long and powerful hind legs and are incredible jumpers. Adult fleas only make up about 5% of the flea population, so whenever you see adult fleas you typically have a much larger flea problem to treat. A female flea lays hundreds of eggs in her short life, which typically fall from her host within minutes and develop into larvae and then pupae before emerging as adult fleas.
