About BioLogic
BioLogic Company has been producing beneficial nematodes in Pennsylvania since 1985. We grow them ourselves and ship them fresh to your door.
We are nematode experts, and we have been producing beneficial nematodes since 1985. When you buy from BioLogic, your nematodes come straight from the producer, which means the freshest product you can get.
Our story
BioLogic was started in 1985 by Dr. Albert Pye, after he finished his postdoctoral research on beneficial nematodes in Umeå, Sweden. He began in his parents' basement and garage in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and in 1989 built a larger facility in Willow Hill, where the company grew steadily for more than three decades.
When Dr. Pye fell ill and passed away in 2012, his son Robert took over. Robert had grown up around the family business and brought a background in engineering and fermentation, including work at Penn State's fermentation laboratory and three years at the Martek (now DSM) fermentation pilot plant, scaling up production of algae, fungi, and bacteria. The way we grow our nematodes is our own, developed over decades and kept in-house.
In 2025 we outgrew Willow Hill and moved to a new facility in McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania. Today BioLogic is a small team of family, plus a few others who feel like family. Robert is a second-generation "worm farmer," and maybe one of his children will be the third one day.

Why buy from BioLogic?
We make what we sell
We're the producer, not a reseller, so your nematodes come to you fresh, straight from us.
Grown in the USA
Grown, packed, and shipped from McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania.
Honest application rates
Based on research, never exaggerated. We've worked with many research institutes, including Cornell and the USDA.
Packed to arrive alive
Tested to keep nematodes alive for 92+ hours, even at 100°F. Lost, damaged, or late more than 3 days? We replace it.
Nematodes are alive and too small to see, so it's hard to know if you're getting what you paid for. They only work if they are alive, healthy, and applied in large enough numbers. Many suppliers resell nematodes they don't produce, and nematodes that spend too long in shipping or storage lose strength. We've stayed in business since 1985, long before most people were thinking about going green, by delivering a product that works. See Shipping and arrival for how we pack your order.
What are beneficial nematodes?
Beneficial nematodes are microscopic roundworms that live in soil and are natural predators of many pest insects. The three species BioLogic produces attack insects only: they hunt down pests like white grubs, fleas, and fungus gnats, but they are safe for people, pets, and plants. Nematodes like these occur naturally, but usually in numbers too low to control pests. Our products add enough of them to do the job.
They find the pest
Nematodes enter the insect and release bacteria.
The pest dies
Usually within a day or two. The bacteria don't harm people or pets.
1–2 daysA new generation hunts
They reproduce inside the dead insect and come out to hunt more pests.
3–4 weeksOur three nematodes
| Product | Species | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Scanmask | Steinernema feltiae | The widest range of pests, and treating to prevent them |
| Ecomask | Steinernema carpocapsae | Fleas, and hot, dry climates |
| Heteromask | Heterorhabditis bacteriophora | White grubs |
Our Ecomask nematodes are a hybrid strain that BioLogic selected for their thicker bodies, a sign of larger energy reserves and more activity. And we've sold the same Scanmask Topdressing formula since 1985.

Safe and compatible
- Safe for people, pets, and plants. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) exempts beneficial nematodes from the registration required for chemical pesticides. They don't harm ladybugs, praying mantises, earthworms, or bees.
- No resistance. Pests can build up resistance to chemical pesticides, but not to nematodes.
- Works with other treatments. They work alongside many common insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers; some need to be applied a week or two apart. See the compatibility list on How to apply.
The material the nematodes are packed in isn't meant to be eaten and may upset the stomach, so keep packages away from children.
