Meloidogyne spp.
Microscopic plant-eating roundworms that make knots on roots, stunting tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, and other crops. Beneficial nematodes help when applied early.
Root-knot nematodes are microscopic roundworms that feed on plants. (They're a different kind of nematode from the beneficial ones in BioLogic's products, which only attack insects.) They are among the most destructive plant-eating nematodes and can do severe damage to crops.
Plants that are especially at risk include tomatoes, eggplant, watermelon, soybeans, and bell peppers. A root-knot nematode's life cycle has six stages: an egg, four young stages, and an adult.
Root-knot nematodes make plant roots grow knots, or galls, that hold back the plant's growth. Different kinds are found all over the world and often cause plant damage and smaller harvests. They also make plants more likely to suffer from other stresses like drought or disease.
The beneficial nematodes in Scanmask have been shown to reduce root-knot nematode populations. Studies have shown that beneficial nematodes can reduce the number of root-knot eggs that hatch, and keep the young root-knot nematodes from infecting plants.
Treat with Scanmask, and treat early. Once knots have formed on the roots, beneficial nematodes don't have much effect. We recommend treating at planting time, or before when you can.
